Abstract: | This study analyses the existing regional variations in the demographic condition of Uganda in the light of the relationship between these regional variations and the process or trends of modernization. Factor analysis techniques are used to show how the artificially created districts of Uganda spatially relate to each other in terms of modernization. Using data from 35 variables of modernization, the study reveals that there is no uniform diffusion of modernization in Uganda. Because of the variations in geographical, historical, and sociocultural conditions between them, the majority of Uganda's districts constitute a series of groups, each of which embraces those districts that have been affected by common traits of modernization.
