| Abstract: | This article is a response to the questions raised by Don Robotham's article on 'The Ghana Problem', published in the same issue of 'Labour, Capital and Society' (p. 13-35). Robotham defends the economic measures of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) as consistent with the establishment of a foundation for a transition to socialism. This raises the obvious question as to whether the PNDC does in fact intend such a socialist transition. The present author argues that the political character of the PNDC remains complicated and deeply ambiguous and cannot simply and without distortion be identified with a 'socialist' option. Notes, ref., sum. in French (p. 36). |
