Abstract: | In 1976 the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Liberian Ministry of Agriculture approached Cuttington University College about possible interest in hosting a school of agricultural technology. A plan was broadly conceived to establish a training programme for presently employed but largely untrained extension service employees and to recruit, in addition, high school graduates who might join an expanded extension service upon graduation. This paper describes the founding of this Rural Development Institute, its construction, curriculum development, administration, and recruitment and enrolment. |
