Abstract: | This article analyses the evolution of Afro-Arab cooperation within the context of the OAU and the League of Arab States during the past twenty-five years and assesses the prospects for future mutual understanding and interorganizational cooperation. Sections: Seeking a common ground (1963-1967) - Political and economic partnership (1967-1977) - Strains in the relationship and efforts to overcome them (1977-1988) - Implications of Afro-Arab cooperation - Conclusion: The bond that links Africans and Arabs is stronger than the obstacles that separate them, and the most recent signals from both the 'black' African and the Arab sides point to an improved atmosphere of cooperation and brotherhood.
