Abstract: | In Nigeria there is a deplorable level of ignorance among the general public about the content of modern geography and about the job capabilities of geography graduates. Yet geographical education seeks to teach knowledge, skills, mental abilities and attitudes of practical value in a wide range of careers in business and commerce, the public service and politics. The Nigerian economy contains a wide range of career opportunities for geography graduates and geography undergraduates, at least at Ahmadu Bello University, are career conscious. Many have ambitions outside teaching and to some extent graduates from Ahmadu Bello have been taking advantage of the wide spectrum of careers available to them. However, geographers can do far more to promote their own professional interests than they have done so far. App. (positions held by geography graduates in Nigeria), bibliogr. |
