About person:Akinlawon Ladipo Mabogunje (1931-2022)ISNI
Abstract:Professor Akinlawon Ladipo Mabogunje joined the Department of Geography of the University of Ibadan in 1958, the first Nigerian to be so appointed. By the time he retired, in 1981, his domination of Nigerian geography was total both in terms of his own professional contribution to the subject and in terms of his championing of Nigerian geography internationally. The present paper provides a biographical sketch of Professor Mabogunje and analyses some of his major contributions to geography in general, and to urban and regional development planning research in particular. The appendix contains a list of theses written under his supervision, as well as a bibliography of his publications to 1980. Bibliogr.
