Abstract: | This study focusses on the application of correlation ratio, a descriptive statistic, to the assessment of soil degradation in an area predominantly under permanent tree crops located in the southern part of Ilesa District of Oyo State, Nigeria. The following land attributes, measured in the field laboratory, were employed: vegetation density, litter and humus, bulk density, slope form, gradient, soil attributes (pH, particle size distribution and bulk density), and drainage. These factors combined explained 65.48 percent of the variations in erosion in the study area. The three most significant attributes are vegetation density, litter and humus, and bulk density, contributing 16.52, 14.43 and 11.48 percent of the variations respectively. In addition, there are several other factors that influence erosion, such as method of cultivation, fallow age, distance from the crest (slope length), local relief, and aggregate stability and shear strength.
