Abstract: | Bibliographic review of Oromo studies, starting with ethnographic studies, going on to history and language and, finally, to a catch all category which includes literature. The author concludes that Oromo studies are flourishing moderately in Kenya and in scattered university departments across Europe and America, but are, in effect, nonexistent in Ethiopia. As good as nothing has been published about the cultures of half the Oromo peoples, most of the dialects have not been studied and great segments of Oromo history are a blank. If, however, Oromos can have the chance to study their own cultures and use their own language for publication, then there could be an efflorescence of Oromo studies and creative writing. Bibliogr.
