Abstract:Using mainly Lorenz curves and the Gini index of concentration, the author presents a spatial analysis of the population of Nigeria between 1911-1963 as revealed by the censuses that have taken place. The analysis is in three parts: population size and growth, interregional population redistribution, intraregional population redistribution. By and large the analysis indicates that population has grown, density has increased, concentration has occurred within the nation while dispersion within regions has increased. All of these changes are highly likely in spite of the variable accuracy of the data for each of the census periods. Bibliogr.
