Abstract: | In areas in Africa where Islam is strong, there is a plentiful supply of Islamic education centres and Koran schools. The author briefly lists the general features that characterize Islamic education and the problems it encounters, which include government neglect, lack of material and pedagogical resources, lack of academic recognition, and competititon from secular education. One of the results of this situation is that many graduates from Islamic universities are forced to take up positions not in keeping with their university qualifications. A suggested project for the improvement of Islamic educational establishments in Africa is presented. Note. |
