| Abstract: | The Training Center for Rural Women Extension Agents at Ouélessébougou, opened in 1980-1981, provides training for extension agents working with rural women in the second region of Mali, 78 km south of Bamako. The author, director of the Training Center, discusses the preliminary stages involved in setting up the training programmes and goes on to outline the methodology used in the development of training courses and the evaluation of participants. She shows the efforts of the Center's staff to observe local customs and preferences while training women in production as well as domestic and health-related activities. The emphasis is on 'animation' in the sense of 'awakening' and mobilizing local women as the key to success in rural development. Notes. |
