Abstract:This paper presents a preliminary model which attempts to link the built form of housing in South Africa systematically to the delivery process. A fundamental assumption that underlies the argument in the paper is that the deliberations toward a new housing policy in South Africa tend to focus almost exclusively on delivery procedures at the expense of a comprehensive treatment of physical form. The model is determined by a broad interpretation of the delivery procedure, elementary shapes of built form, and the urban spatial framework in which housing is situated. Bibliogr.
