| Abstract: | The liberalization of international trade in financial services is closely connected with the elimination of restrictions relating to foreign exchange control which hinder the overseas flow of services, paving the path for direct foreign investment through the foundation of branches of foreign banks. This study highlights the impact of the liberalization of world trade in financial services on the Egyptian banking system. This goal is sought through placing emphasis on the concept of world trade in financial services and its theoretical basis. To this end, the following points are illuminated: the GATT and world trade liberalization; liberalizing financial services in the context of the Uruguay Round (the 1986 GATT trade round); Egypt's banking system and the liberalization of trade in financial services. The final chapter emphasizes the need to adopt a comprehensive banking strategy in Egypt, aiming at maximizing gains from the liberalization of the financial market. Bibliogr., note. |
