Abstract: | Clement Martyn Doke (1893-1980), to whom this special issue of African Studies is devoted, is the single most important figure in the history of southern African linguistics. He was one of the first Africanists to free African language study from the constraints of classical and European models and to develop a method for linguistic analysis based upon structures within the African languages themselves. This contribution is a list of publications and manuscripts by Doke, chronologically arranged from 1913 to 1975, and completed with a list of journals and volumes edited by him. |
