Abstract: | Travel demand reflects a person's life-style and activities. These affect the number of trips made, their purpose and the distances over which they are made, the time of day at which they occur and the mode of travel adopted. A case study of travel behaviour carried out in 1985 in high, medium and low density residential areas of Ibadan (Nigeria) differentiated by sociocultural and economic characteristics confirmed the hypothesis that 'households living in three distinctive housing types do indeed have distinctive travel patterns'.
