Abstract:This is the text of the first six articles of the treaty establishing the African Economic Community (AEC), which was signed by African leaders at the start of the OAU summit in Abuja, Nigeria, on June 3rd, 1991, in order to create a continent-wide economic community. It calls for countries to remove trade barriers and to facilitate a free market by the turn of the century.
