Abstract:This study comprises two reports. The first provides recent data on refugees in sub-Saharan Africa, highlighting the burden imposed upon individual host countries by refugee flows and identifying the underlying causes behind the displacement of millions of individuals (wars of liberation, internal repression, external destabilization in southern Africa, ethnic and religious persecution). It also describes the nature and pattern of international labour migration in sub-Saharan Africa. The second report deals with refugee shelter and settlement issues, in Africa and elsewhere.
