Abstract:	Using a systemic observation approach, the author studied verbal and nonverbal behaviour in primary school physical education classes in Nigeria. Ninety students from thirty primary schools in the Ethiope Local Government Area of Bendel State were observed in gymnastics, athletics and games of low organization. The Rankin Interaction Analysis System was the instrument used for data collection. The findings showed that teacher talk, student talk, and student moving were the most frequently occurring modes of interaction. Students spent a considerable amount of class time (14.9 percent) making noise and behaving disruptively. Significant differences were observed in teacher talk and teacher rejection between the various subject matters. There was no significant difference between the various categories of interaction when analysed by sex of students. Bibliogr., sum.
