Abstract:This paper provides an overview of the patterns and dynamics of child sexual abuse in Zimbabwe. Relevant local research on child sexual abuse is reviewed, indicating a very low rate of reported cases in comparison to international trends. The characteristics of 73 sexually abused children referred to child-care agencies and the characteristics of the perpetrators of child sexual abuse are analysed to determine behavioural patterns. The consequences of child sexual abuse are discussed and issues in the management of child sexual abuse are highlighted, including legal issues. Recommendations are made from a preventive viewpoint.
