Abstract: | This study was conducted to find out the reliability of classroom tests used in the training of environmental health technicians in Zimbabwe. Classroom tests constitute an important form of formative evaluation in the training programme. Their reliability is, therefore, an important consideration when reference is made to the quality of the graduates. 20 teachers in four training schools were asked to submit test scores and question papers for at least one test which they had given to students to write during 1992. 29 tests were received which involved the results of 69 students. The analysis established very low reliability coefficients in the test results. The main reasons for this are the limited length of the tests and the lack of objectivity in scoring by the teachers. The difficulty level of the tests as well as the spread of the scores also contributed to the low reliability of the tests. Bibliogr., sum. |
