Abstract: | This study reports on the deterioration of the quality of water in the subcatchments of the Nairobi, Ngong and Kamiti rivers, which make up the upper Athi catchment (Kenya). The water in most of the Nairobi river subcatchments was found to be highly polluted. The major pollutants were heavy metals (due to industrial activities) and pesticides (due to agricultural activities), in addition to other water pollutants such as suspended solids and organic material.
