Abstract:A parasitological survey for schistosomiasis (S. mansoni and S. hematobium) in children and young adults was carried out in Kore, a small agricultural village situated close to the Ahmadu Bello University dam and waste treatment plant, in Zaria emirate, northern Nigeria. Of a sample of 60 people examined, half were found to be infested with S. mansoni. Prevalence increased with age. Other parasitic infections were hookworm (84.6 percent), Ascaris lumbriocoides (34.6 percent) and Entamoeba coli (26.9 percent). Urine examination for S. hematobium infection showed that 8 out of 34 males (23.53 percent) and 4 out of 26 females (15.38 percent) were infected. Polyparasitism was recorded in 43.33 percent of the people. Ref., sum.
