University of Zimbabwe. School of Social Work
Abstract:The School of Social Work was established in 1964 and is an affiliate college of the University of Zimbabwe. Currently offered are a one-year Certificate in Social Work, a three-year Diploma in Social Work, and bachelor's and master's degree courses. The outcome study reported here expands on V. Brand's 1983 study of the work and educational experiences of 1971-1981 diploma graduates. It is based on the response of 70 former students who successfully completed the diploma and degree programmes between 1988 and 1992 to a questionnaire survey conducted in October 1994. The study covered graduates' type of employment; factors affecting the graduates' job selection and their job satisfaction; graduates' perceptions of the strengths and weaknesses of their social work training; and the relevance of the social work courses at the School for the graduates' work in Zimbabwe. It also compared the employment experiences of the recent graduates with those included in the Brand study. Bibliogr., sum.
