Abstract: | The author examines the character of foreign companies (two categories: companies which are registered in a European country but conduct part of their operations in Tropical Africa, and companies which are registered in T.A. but are subsidiaries of companies registered abroad), their quantitative importance, their diversity and variety with their economic and political risks, the most important among which is the result of price fluctuations of the exported products. Further the qualitative importance of foreign companies is exposed, which are big, international and modern and usually more up-to-date than the Government enterprises. The foreign companies enjoy a position of pre-eminence and of prestige in Tropical Africa and they have forged a close link between the economics of developed and under-developed countries. The author urges the study of political power and influence of big foreign companies in an economy. |
