Abstract:Geography has an important role to play in contemporary society. The core areas of geography, i.e. human and physical, have undergone some notable developments or changes. There are a number of critical world problems relating to the environment, food and population where geographers can play a role in finding solutions. The Kenyan geographer can play a role in solving the critical social problems of Kenya, such as the development of the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL), overpopulation and environmental pollution in the urban centres, and conservation. An agenda for the Kenyan geographer in the 21st century is proposed. The numerous tasks outlined are to be tackled by geographers in collaboration with others in allied disciplines. Above all, the support of the government is of paramount importance. Bibliogr., sum.
