Abstract: | Tribal thinking pervades the Kenyan mind. Most Kenyans see themselves as members of a tribe rather than as citizens of a Kenyan State. Tribalism is a serious impediment to development. In fact, tribalism and development are mutually exclusive. The author argues that Kenya needs to develop one society if meaningful development is to be expected. The creation of one Kenyan society can only be accomplished through socialization, and this can only be achieved through education. In planning Kenya's educational system the first priority of educators should be the destruction of tribal ways and the creation of one society with one main culture. The author outlines a series of ways in which education can be used for detribalization in Kenya. Bibliogr., sum. |
