Abstract:This paper surveys the interaction process of population factors and development in the Sudan in the decade 1970-1980. This is done by using quality of life indices to assess the trend of socioeconomic modernization. The aim of the author is to minimize the reliance on per capita income and domestic product alone as measures of population, prosperity, and performance in development. He is opposed to the idea of simply adopting a model without subjecting it to the reality of each society, resource capability, and population dynamics. As indices of the quality of life in Sudan he uses income and employment, life expectancy and infant mortality, and levels of education. Bibliogr.
