Abstract:This paper examines the effects of trade policies, exports, and investment rate on economic growth in twelve sub-Saharan African countries (SSA) over the period 1963-1993. Using a vector error correction model, the authors find that such effects were significant for ten of the twelve countries in question. This suggests that it is possible to stimulate economic growth in some African countries through an outward-looking strategy of export expansion. The findings further indicate that it is important for African countries to embark on trade liberalization policies in order to stimulate economic growth. Bibliogr., notes, ref., sum.
