Abstract: | The author, a Zimbabwean on the World Bank staff, traces the origin of the bank's 1981 report, 'Accelerated Development in Sub-Saharan Africa: An Agenda for Action', outlines the bank's own response to it, and notes the bank's priorities for African development. He concludes that the report has served as an effective catalyst for debate on specific issues of strategies and priorities in African development as well as highlighting important areas for improvement in both domestic and donor policies. |
