Abstract:This essay survey the activities of the set of development institutions operating in the Northern Region of Nigeria. Since 1956 the two previously separate development bodies in this Region have been integrated into the Northern Region Development Corporation (NRDC). The activities of the NRDC and its predecessors are the known of the principal Nigerian development institutions primarily because they, unlike those in the other two Regions, have so far remained free fom political scandal. Their policies have, however, met with as great, if not greater, success than those of the other Regions' comparable development institutions. After a short background note as to the character of the Region itself follows the survey which had the following sections: The Predecessors which has the following sections: The Predecessors of the NRDC; The Activities of the NRDC; Conclusion.
