| Abstract: | Considers the contemporary picture of man in Africa since the appearance of Homo sapiens some 60,000 year ago. After a review of the different classificatory systems for race, the world's major races are identified (Caucasoid, Mongoloid, Congoid-Negroid, Australoid, Capoid-Bushmanoid) and their representatives in Africa are described: The Congoid (Negroid) race - the Caucasoid race - The Capoid race (Bushmen and Hottentots) - Mongoloid race.
