Abstract: | This article describes a series of sites and their architectural remains (notably mosques, tombs both with and without pillars - and town walls) on what can be described as the heartland of the Bajun coast in the extreme south of Somalia. Most of the datable material probably of the sixteenth century; a little is later. No earlier sites have yet been found in this region. The sites are described from south to north: Ras Kiambone (2 sites) - Kiskichini - Hannassa - Myaandi - Ras Bar Balla - Maanaraani (Mnarani) - Veko - Bur Gavo (properly Buur Gaabo).
