International Court of Justice
Abstract:The decisions of the International Court of Justice concerning Namibia have ranged from two advisory opinions to two on procedural matters, one on contentious proceedings and one on preliminary objections. These have enabled the Court to develop its jurisprudence on such issues as colonialism, apartheid, freedom fighting and treaty interpretation. Successively the survey deals with 1. The advisory opinion of 1950 - 2. The advisory opinions of 1955 and 1956 - 3. South-West Africa cases: Ethiopia v. South Africa, Liberia v. South Africa - 4. South-West Africa (second phase) case - 5. Legal consequences for states of the continued presence of South Africa in Namibia (South-West Africa) notwithstanding Security Council resolution 276(1970) - 6. Conclusion. Notes.
