Abstract:On 16 May 1969, the establishment of the Bureau State Security as a Department of State under for the Prime Minister, was promulgated. The Bureau and its powers are considered in the article. It will operate in complete secrecy as a grand inquisitor; it will be free to gather information about anyone or anything on the pretext of investigating matters affecting the security of the State. Its secret dossiers could include not only suspected spies etc. but also critics of apartheidstudents, liberals and others who have demonstrated against the regime's racial policies.
