Abstract: | With the disintegration of the colonial system, planning in the former African colonies and protectorates underwent a complete metamorphosis. In some of them the planning conception approximates to the models of centrally planned economies; in others it is inspired by the techniques germinated in the market-oriented ones. Yet in both cases there is an attempt to reexamine the ideological foundations and economic concepts of planning in the light of their different stages of development and specific national conditions. This article has the following chapters: Planning Before and After Independence; Common Denominators in Planning; Planning Strategies and Techniques; Planning Techniques; Strengths and Weaknesses of the Plans. Tables; notes. |
