Abstract: | The Labour Decree 1973 is a much less cumbersome document than the Labour Code Act which it has repealed and replaced. Part 1 deals with the protection of wages of workers and their contracts of employment; Part 2 contains provisions regulating the recruiting of workers for employment either in or outside Nigeria; Part 3 deals with the employment of apprentices, women, young persons and domestic servants as well as making provisions for the registration of employers and industrial workers, the establishment of Labour Exchanges and Labour Health Areas and the prohibition of forced labour. Part 4 deals with miscellaneous matters including the administration of the Decree. Part 1, introducing the most significant changes in the law, receives the greatest attention. Notes. |
