Abstract: | In the first week of March 1984, Bophuthatswana's Industrial Conciliation Act passed through parliament, making the territory the first of the 'independent' homelands to draw up its own legislation providing for the operation of trade unions. This paper examines the requirements and features of the Act, which provides for the existence of both registered and unregistered unions, and which radically differs from the South African law in allowing for compulsary arbitration in most disputes. |
