| Abstract: | Social welfare in Egypt was declared by the government to be one of the major goals of the 1952 Revolution. In underdeveloped nations public welfare can play a significant role in community development. In order to discover just how this might occur, the study examines the public welfare programs in Egypt, which uncovers a direct relationship between the major public welfare programs and the present community or local government. The article gives a historical perspective, in which it discusses: The traditional charity-Initial steps in social welfare-Private agencies-Rural social centers-The three main tenets and the organisation of these centers-Permanent Council for Publi Welfare Centers-Combined Service Units-Rural Councils. |
