Abstract: | Professor Hance (Columbia University) pays attention to the in 1946 officially launched developmentscheme. This experiment in raising the social and economic level of the Azande in the S.W. Corner of Equatoria Province aimed at improvement of local self-suffiency by economic stability and expansion of the trade with the Northern Sudan. Cotton was the economic mainstay of the project. Several operations in the agricultural, the industrial and the trading sector are mentioned in the article. There is as yet no endconclusion about the scheme but to date progress has been substantial. |
