Abstract:In the autumn of 1966 a study group of the German Development Institute was set the task of carrying out a preliminary study on regional planning in Western Kenya. This paper describes a method by means of which a planning region may be delimited very quickly on the basis of data generally available in developing countries: Introduction - The objectives of regional planning - Administrative and natural boundaries - Delineation according to the local service areas of central places - The determination of local service areas by means of a graph analysis - Changes within the local service areas.
