| Abstract: | It has long been suspected that the compiler of the Synaxary entry for Abba Sälama, 'the first' bishop of Ethiopia (26th of the month of Hamle), has confusingly presented the history of the establishment of the Church in Axum. It appears that the compiler of this Synaxary entry had at his disposal historical documents which he could not assumed that the documents included in the entry dealt with the same period and with persons who were contemporaries. One of these documents is the anonymous homily in honor of king Ellä Asbäha of Axum (Ethiopian Manuscript Microfilm Library, Addis Ababa/Collegeville, Minesota, nr. 1763, ff. 34v.-35v.) is reviewed here. The text is presented in facsimile, with translation in English. Notes (general, on the introduction, and on the translation). |
