Author:Paterson, A.A.
Year:1971

Volume:16
Issue:4
Pages:22-24
Language:English
Geographic term:Ghana
Subject:freedom of the press
Abstract:The author first discusses the lack of press freedom in Ghana during the control of Nkrumah and he describes his own experiences with various forms of pressure during his career. Press freedom needs an independent body containing i.a. representatives of both the government and opposition parties. Apart from this body there is a need for press laws covering slander, defamation of character, publishing false news and libel such as are covered by the Ghana Constitution.
