Abstract:Discussion on small-scale industries in Ethopia. The main concern is on establishments of about Eth. 625,000 capitalwise and of about 100 working force employmentwise. After a general discussion of small-scale industries their role in several countries (U.S.A., West Germany, Puerto Rico, U.K., Japan, India, U.A.R.) is indicated. Then follows a description of the Ethiopian small-scale industries. The Ethiopian government has not done so far anything of signifiance to encourage small-scale industrie. There seems to be mix-up in the Third Five-year Plan between small industries and cottage industries. Underlined is the importance of small-scale industries in the economic development of Ethiopia. Also pointed out is that most of the established small-scale industries in the country are owned and run by non-Ethiopians. Bibliography.
