Abstract: | Address delivered by the Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town at the mass meeting held at the University of Cape Town, 27th May, 1970. The purpose of the meeting was twofold: 1) to draw attention of the public to the fact that 22 awaiting trial prisoners have been detained for more than 12 months. These 22 prisoners have already been tried before a judge, after a long trial the judge acquitted them. This judgement was delivered over three months ago, and yet these 22 people are still in prison - 2) to protest at the continued suspension or the rule or law and to demand that justice should be done. |
