Abstract:Purpose: 1) to study and discuss statistics on Ethiopia as related to commission of offenses, treatment of offenses at court, and status of the convicted at prisons; 2) to attempt selective comparisons with American data; 3) to discuss analytical interpretations of the findings resulting from the foregoing data. Emphasis is upon the Ethiopian aspects studied. Sections: Statistics and comparisons (adult crime statistics) - Court cases: lodged, decided, appealed - Prison statistics - Discussion and interpretation (theoretical considerations; a brief description of Ethiopian culture; amount and type of offense; treatment of cases at court; interpretation of prison statistics) - Summary and conclusions.
