Abstract: | This study of Zambian Railway Workers describes an investigation which attempts to show that the variations in the prestige ratings of selected occupations may be considered to be the result of a summation or combination of the variations of the factors operating in the occupations. Six factors and twelve occupations were chosen for the investigation which was carried out with the help of eighty-five respondents who were all in training at the Railway Training School at Broken Hill, Zambia. The results of the study support the hypothesis that the prestige value of occupations is determined by a kind of synthesis or cumulation of various factors or dimensions of relevance to the occupation.
