Abstract: | This is an exploratory paper to investigate the factors that influence and contribute to female labour force participation in Nigeria. The authors examine both the modern and traditional economic sectors in Kano, a traditional Hausa city, and Ibadan, a traditional Yoruba city. The data used are based on responses from the male and female short questionnaires. The sample size is based on a total of 1,076 male and 1,086 female respondents from the Ibadan survey and 699 males and 777 females from the Kano survey. For the investigation the authors selected questions relating to the age of the respondent, marital status, place of birth, labour force participation, occupational status, ethnic group and educational attainment. The data presented are provisional. Ref., notes, tables, summaries in French and German. |
