Abstract: | Inequalities in income distribution surely mirror fundamental inegalitarian tendencies in society. It is patently obvious that concern for this problem should be particularly acute in South Africa at present, where a substantial majority of the population is currently able to enjoy a relative small share of the country's total production. After a brief discussion of the theory underlying the relationship between educational and income distributions follows an examination of the concept of 'equality of educational opportunity'. Hereafter a brief survey of some of the empirical evidence. Finally the position in South Africa is discussed. Notes, figures, tables. |
