Abstract: | The net migration dimension is extracted by principal components analysis not because it is a multivariate concept but because of insufficient data. Data source was the General African Population Census taken in 1957 providing information on Tribe, Age, and Sex for 563 Territorial Census Areas. Three hypotheses were specified, namely that migration results in: 1. ethnic imbalance; 2. age imbalance; 3. sex imbalance. Within the limits of the available census data six variables were derived. After the description of the method of analysis follows the elaboration of the results. The principal components analysis has proved to be a powerful descriptive device for geographical analysis. Although the results are already out-dated they are meaningful in the light of information for the 1950's. Notes,. figures, tables. |
