Abstract: | Not enough attention is paid in economic literature on African countries to the emerging interregional disparities. Attempted here is to show how, in the case of Kenya, these regional disparities emerged and how they have actually become accentuated during the postindependence period. Whereas neo-classic theory assumes that interregional migratory flows will tend to equalize interregional inequalities, the author attempts to show, that, if anything, migration since it is becoming increasingly selective of the educated is another factor which adds to the circular and cumulative process of regional imbalance. The discussion has been restricted mostly to looking at the three provinces with the heaviest densities of population, namely Central Province, Nyanza Province, and Western Province - the last two at one stage comprising only one province.
